Only 12 professionals are chosen for this prestigious award each year. Fellow professionals nominate candidates who are then vetted by a committee comprised of past President’s Award recipients. After an extensive review process, the committee chooses its 12 recipients.
The annual recognition is given for outstanding performance, integrity and overall quality of services provided.
Dr. Sousa has practiced at Truesdale Health since August 2004. He has also served on the Truesdale Board as a Member and Clerk of the Corporation since March 2009.
Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine, he is a fellow in the College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Sousa also served on the Fall River Board of Health from 2010 to 2019.
Since opening his practice, he has cared for and earned the trust of thousands of patients. Of special note, Dr. Sousa gained even wider recognition for the care he has provided patients with COVID-19 since cases began appearing in 2020. That care was a factor in the 2022 Community Clinician award he recently received from the Massachusetts Medical Society.
Dr. Sousa said of his award, “While I am humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award, it was particularly meaningful to know that I was selected by my peers,” and added, “If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.”
Marvin D. Berman, M.D., President of Truesdale Health, said, “It is no surprise that Dr. Sousa is recognized again for his quality, compassionate care. As his patients will tell you, he’s a great doctor, and I am pleased that he serves those in our community with pulmonary and critical care needs. The Truesdale mission is one of providing a central healthcare resource that spans many specialties for the Greater Fall River area. Dr. Sousa is one of his field’s best.”
