The Truesdale Health Foundation will be donating $2500 worth of bicycle helmets to Mass in Motion-Fall River in 2021. The exercise- and health-minded Mass in Motion will distribute approximately 250 helmets to young Fall River bike riders.
The donation follows on the heels of the Foundation’s donation of 214 helmets worth $2000 in 2020.
Mass in Motion is a statewide movement that promotes healthy eating and active living. For its helmet program, the group identifies kids most in need of assistance and traditionally distributes the protective gear at Helmet Give-Away events. COVID-19 restrictions put a damper on this public event last year (and will in 2021 too), so the group got creative and partnered with 11 social service organizations, three schools and a small group of Fall River volunteers who got the helmets into the hands of the local kids.
The Foundation approves of Mass in Motion’s focus on exercise and of its role educating young people on proper helmet fitting and basic bike safety skills. Every cloud has a silver lining, and the recent need to work with social service agencies and schools actually helped Mass in Motion in its goal of identifying those most in need. Post COVID, the group will likely continue the dual distribution channels of agencies and events.
Mass in Motion’s Sarah Labossiere said, “The contributions of the Truesdale Health Foundation are so greatly appreciated! Fall River children and their parents have been very grateful for the helmets and excited for the opportunity they offer to ride safely, outside, during this challenging year. Thank you for your investment Fall River’s future, and for the care you show to children’s health and safety.”
